NC holds all party meet, seeks support for NC-led govt

Kathmandu, Jan. 28: Nepali Congress got green single of support to form the government under its parliamentary party leader Sushil Koirala from most of the parties represented in the Constituent Assembly (CA).

During all party meeting held at Internal Convention Center, New Baneswor, organized by the NC on Tuesday most of the top leaders of the other parties present at the meeting said that they would support the NC to form the government.

NC formally sought support from political parties to form national consensus government in line with the call by president Dr. Ram Baran Yadav.

At all party meeting, the second largest party, CPN-UML, third largest party, UCPN-Maoist, Rastriya Prajatantra party, Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Loktantrik, among other parties were present.

"At the meeting practically all speakers expressed support to Koirala for PM. RPP-N abstained. Emphasis on constitution making." NC leader Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat twitted after the meeting.

After meeting NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, who was defeated by Koirala in election of NC parliamentary party, expressed hope to form consensus government at the earliest.

“Positive talks came from all parties, probably agreement will be made soon. I believe that consensus government will be formed,” he said.

Deuba told reporters that all parties expressed happiness for NC initiative to form consensus government.

UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal said his party will support NC led government, if atmosphere would be appropriate for it to join the government.


The UML chief informed that the NC forwarded proposal to support to form government under its leadership and others supported at the meeting.

“We supported the NC. If situation ease, we joins in joint government” he said.

Other UML leader Bhim Acharya informed that parties stressed to form consensus government at the earliest.

UCPN-Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara said his party was for a government under NC leadership.

“The UCPN-Maoist wishes for an NC led government,” he said.

He viewed that the NC led government should facilitate to write new constitution.

“In first stage our party will not join the government, but we support the government to write constitution” he said.

Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum-Loktantrik chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar said his party took positive as the NC started discussion with all party to form consensus government.

“Our party will support the NC led government for writing constitution even if we do not join the government” he said.
